Pungo Creek Butcher Dent Corn

Introduced by Southern Exposure Seed Exchange in 2010, genetic analysis shows this variety is descended from Bloody Butcher. Tall, hardy stalks reach up to 11 feet and carry 9 to 12 inch ears in tightly wrapped husks displaying a mixed rainbow of red, brown, yellow, and sometimes purple kernels. Rough milled it makes a nutritious feed, or it can be ground into a meal with rich flavor and unusual color — and it is delicious baked into muffins or cornbread.
