Tender Annual Bush. Also called chickpeas, the garbanzo bean is a tender annual legume that produces 1" pods that contains one to two seeds each. When cooked, the beans have a wonderful nutty flavor and are good in salads or for making hummus.

Planting & Care
Soil and Water: Grow in loose, well-drained soil that is rich with organic matter. Avoid growing in soils that are high in nitrogen. This will result in leafy grown and less seed production. Water regularly but avoid overhead watering.
Planting and Growing: Seeds germinate best if scarified or you can soak them overnight in water. Direct sow when daytime temperatures range between 70 and 80°F and nighttime temps. Do not drop below 65°F. For a head start, plant seeds indoors in biodegradable pots and plant directly in the garden when temperatures have warmed.
Harvesting and Storage: Beans can be harvested when they are immature and green or allowed to mature and dry on the plant. Seeds can be harvested when pods begin to split.
